DAPHNE SCHMON | Co-Founder & CEO
Daphne is an award-winning Greek-American Director and Founder of BREAKING THROUGH THE LENS. In 2010, her debut feature documentary CHILDREN OF THE WIND won 8 international festival awards. She has since led teams in nine countries, and her work has been featured on CNN, Amazon, SBS and Redbull TV. Most recently, she won the Directors UK Trinity Challenge with EXIT TO STAGE. Daphne is the Founder of Seek Films and currently in development on debut feature film MATI set in Corfu, Greece.
EMILY CARLTON| Co-Founder & COO
Emily is a British Screenwriter, Producer and COO of BREAKING THROUGH THE LENS. She recently won “Best Screenplay” at the Lift-Off Global Awards for her film FULL ENGLISH. Graduating from Cambridge University with a degree in Social & Political Sciences, she went on to work for School For Startups, where she helped train almost 2,000 small business owners and ran Angel Investor events, including one at Buckingham Palace. Emily is Co-Founder and Creative Director at Seek Films. Her work has been screened at over 50 international festivals and she is currently in development on feature film MATI.
ELPIDA STATHATOU| Co-Founder & Head of Guest Relations.
Elpida is an award-winning Greek Producer and Actress. In 2017 she adapted, produced and acted in a one woman play called “Stegosaurus" which received 5-star critical acclaim, and was nominated for the Mental Health Award at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. "Stegosaurus" was also part of the VAULT Festival 2018 in London. Elpida has been featured in InStyle and Esquire among other top publications and currently works as Head of Production for Seek Films in Greece.
KATIE O’MAHONEY| Executive Producer
Katie is a Producer, Director and key member of the BREAKING THROUGH THE LENS team. Over the years she has produced commercials internationally for the likes of Steve McQueen, DreamWorks and Burberry. Last year she directed a viral campaign for the Women’s Equality Party that helped change archaic abortion laws in the UK. Currently Katie is co-producing the romantic comedy FINDING CLIVE, with Melissa Parmenter at Revolution Films, directed by Deva Palmier, which will be shooting later this year.
MOUNIA BRIYA| Presenter & Head of French Liaisons
TV presenter, manager of a major fashion brand and owner of a a Parisian restaurant, Mounia founded "Les filles à fromages” in 2012. These female ambassadors from varied backgrounds embodied French gastronomie with an edgy vibe. Through "Les filles à fromages” Mounia hosted large scale events around the world including Cannes 2016 where she welcomed 200+ guests. In 2015 she launched BOMBANCE Magazine, an original and creative publication dedicated to the mélange of food and fashion.
KARINA JAKUBOWICZ| Head of Filmmaker Logistics
Karina is a writer, events organiser and key member of the BREAKING THROUGH THE LENS logistics team. She helped to run the launch the first event at Cannes 2018, and is now preparing to bring the event to Cannes 2019. Her screenwriting credits include VIBRATION, which won Best Short Film at the 42nd Buchon Film Festival, and the Judges Choice award at the 19th Seoul Independent Film Festival. She is a graduate of Trinity College Dublin, Cambridge University and UCL, and teaches English Literature at Florida State University and Cambridge University.
DEVA PALMIER| Creative DirectorDeva is a UK / Egyptian-Maltese filmmaker and key member of the BREAKING THROUGH THE LENS creative team. Deva originally trained as an actress at GSMD on a BP scholarship and then studied filmmaking at NYU on a William and Eva Fox Fellowship. This year, she is shooting FINDING CLIVE, a Nicholl Fellowship Quarterfinalist, starring Shirley Henderson and Roger Allam, produced by Melissa Parmenter at Revolution Films. Deva’s short films have won numerous awards, screening at many BAFTA and Oscar-qualifying festivals. FISHY, distributed by Shorts International, is now on iTunes. THE GRAB, her latest, will premiere at a top BAFTA qualifying festival - to be announced in May 2019.
ELLIE AITKEN| Event Coordinator
Ellie completed Sussex University in 2017 with a first-class degree in Sociology and Media. Since graduating, she has worked for a number of production companies, primarily in Broadcast Documentary, for channels including Channel 4 and BBC3. Ellie has assisted on commercials, documentaries, and 360 VR content working for clients such as Campari America, Berocca, and The Economist. Ellie is a key member of Seek Films, helping to research and assist across all areas of the business. She is a key member of the Breaking Through The Lens team and will be helping to coordinate the event at Cannes 2019.
