'Breaking Through The Lens' curates a small selection of the highest-quality feature films directed by women, projects that are already far along in development, and gives them the opportunity to pitch in front of top-tier financiers. There is no competition, no gimmick, it's as simple as that. We bring these two groups together in a way that is mutually beneficial, enjoyable and forges lasting professional relationships.
The initiative launched in 2018 at the Cannes Film Festival, and all projects received material interest, with several already moving into production. For our 2nd edition last May 2019, we received over 200 applications from 54 countries, evidence of the truly global reach and appetite for a program such as this.
Each of our events is focused on practical results-driven actions. All participants are connected via email to funders that have shown interest in their project, and every effort is taken to help them close the deal. Beyond that, everyone who attends the event will become a part of the Breaking Through The Lens network.
There is a shift in the industry occurring, a moment that must be seized, and it will be deeds not words that bring about this change. Join us as ‘Breaking Through The Lens’ leads the way.
"One of my highlights of Cannes…I receive many emails from directors to review projects… and to actually sit and watch the pitches has far more of an impact.."
— Rebecca Long, Boudica Films
There is no restriction in terms of genre, but each project must have:
1. A strong, finished script (Or detailed beat sheet in the case of documentaries).
2. A producer with feature film experience attached.
3. A strong visual treatment, which includes artistic references.
4. A director’s statement.
5. A full budget and finance plan (should you be selected).
This is about finding films with strong artist merit, that are already in a position to receive finance and go into production within the next 12 months.
Applications are currently closed.
